About AJ

Hi, let me introduce myself.  My name is AJ Brewster, well that's my published name.  I was born in the 70's in a small hospital in a small village located in the county of Suffolk, England.

When I was younger I would have said that I hated school, but, now that I am older, I know that it was among the many influences to my writing.

I started Middle School at the age of nine where the head teacher introduced us to his love of poetry and while I liked to read the poetry that he introduced me to, I was mostly influenced by the likes of Pam Ayres, Roald Dahl and Spike Milligan.  While I do have some serious poems, I feel that by making people laugh you make people remember, so it's a good way to get a point across.

At the age of eleven I went on to read horror stories and until that point I didn't really like reading.  I started by reading Child Possessed by David St Clair, which was based on a true story.  I like to read many genres and authors, but I always go back to my favourites HG Wells, James Herbert, Richard Laymon, Graham Masterton and John Connolly.  However, my ultimate favourite is the master, Stephen King.

It was as the ripe old age that my favourite aunt introduced me to the delights of the horror film, An American Werewolf in London followed later that evening by Evil Dead.  That was when my passion for horror films kicked in, how ever I am partial to a bit of Sci-fi, time travel especially.

I started out writing my first novel 'By Any Other Name' when I had a spell of unemployment.  After trying literary agents and publishers, I eventually started my website to showcase my writing.  To pad out the website I started writing poetry and there was so much that I decided to get it published and that started the Odes & Rhymes of Life & Times series.  I didn't intend it to be a series.  When first published it was just called Odes & Rhymes of Life & times and sold only 85 copies, but I had so many poems that I decided a series would be good and with a few minor changes I republished it as Odes & Rhymes of Life & Times book 1 - Alternative Advice on the Adult Adventure and then got to work on Odes & Rhymes of Life & Times book 2 - The Funnier Side of Life.

Between publishing my poetry books I went back to my novel, reviewed it and then took the plunge to publish it.

And so I became the novelist and poet that I am.

Over and out.
